The story about the founding of Roznava
According to the story, there was a large meadow where Rožňava lies nowadays, where a shepherd grazed his cows. Once, one heifer lost her bell so the shepherd decided to look for it. He found a golden triple rose.
He lay down and fell asleep. In his dream, a fairy approached and whispered: “You will be wealthy, but you can be happy only in the world behind.“
When the shepherd woke up, he told his dream to his friends and showed them the place where he found the triple rose. As they dug, they found gold which attracted many gold miners. The miners established a new settlement called Rosenau.
Roznava was named after 3 golden roses which we can find in the town emblem (it was a triple golden rose earlier).
